First, a confession.  I have Sirius XM Book Radio in my car and a long commute.   So, I listen to books.  Actually, I listen to about 30 minutes of a book a day.  I miss the next 30 minutes.  Then the next day, I get a new 30 minutes again.  If I enjoy a book, I may get it.  If I don’t, I may listen anyway or switch to music.  Despite the mixed up method of only hearing every other 30 minutes of a book, there are times when I fall in love with a book.  Where She Went is a great example.

I borrowed the book from my local library and read it.  Twice.

It’s been three years since the accident.  Adam Wilde is now a rock star with a capital “R”.  His band, and particularly his songs, are a worldwide hit.  But the songs came out of the lowest possible place.  His high school girlfriend was in a terrible car crash that killed her parents and 8 year old brother.  She lived, horrible battered in the hospital.  Mia left Adam after the accident and never looked back.

Then Adam wandering in New York for one night sees a poster for Mia playing at Carnegie Hall.  On impulse, he buys a ticket and goes to hear her.  While he tries to keep a low profile, word that he’s in the building filters to Mia and she asks to see him.  For one night, they are both in New York.  And, as the story moves forward and backwards, we glimpse who Mia was, who Adam was, how Adam’s climb to fame happen.  But Adam’s in agony.  No longer in love with the music on his guitar and missing Mia’s cello.  Can they find a way to reconnect or is it time to let go?

As I said, I read the second book and then found out it was the second book.   So I read the first book.  I think I could have reduced the first book to a prologue chapter in the second book.  Wondering if that was just my reaction, I had my daughter read the books in the correct order.  She LOVED the second book and said she read the first book because I told her too – and skipped a lot of pages.

If you only have time for one, read Where She Went by Gayle Forman.
